A legendary collaboration; historic and definitive interpretations.

Schumann and Brahms Piano Quintets with Rudolf Serkin and The Budapest String Quartet. I was a pianist at Serkin’s Marlboro Music Festival in Vermont in 1963 and had the opportunity to get to know this wonderful man. At Columbia Records, I was the record producer for the Budapest String Quartet. Although Serkin and The Budapest had worked together in the past, they had never collaborated on a record. Once again I nudged and nagged—and got them together to record these two great piano quintets. They put it all together in early, and what resulted is one of the truly magical collaborations in all recorded chamber music.
